Some say the reason is because of rising costs, economic recession etc etc.
But unfortunately, I don't think that is the reason!
When I started racing back in 1998, racing was fun!! But as soon as I got off my black plates in Cadet, the realisation that money was everything soon set in, and if I did dare get in with the front group, I was soon binned off. So at 10, I moved to Junior at non-MSA. It wasn't much better all the way through my Junior racing. My last ever Junior race was at 14 at Kimbolton, where I was hit so hard on the approach to a corner the kart behind landed on my head, giving me a concussion and breaking my hand when it landed on me. Clerk said "racing incident!" Bullsh!t!
We moved into Gearbox at 15, testing at Kimbolton for a year til I turned 16. I don't care what people say, that move was the best I ever made, as Gearbox racers as a whole have so much respect for each other. Sure, you get the occasional nudge, but nothing ridiculous, and it's always followed by an apology. Unfortunately, its too late for some, who by this point are sick to death of the over-aggressive, often violent nature of parents in the sport.
If I'm honest, while I miss driving karts, I don't miss racing at Short Circuit at all, and I wouldn't race Rotax / TKM etc if you paid me! And christ knows when I have kids, they won't be MSA karting! I wouldn't want to put them through that!
