Hi Charlie,assuming it is not faulty and fitted correctly that is right.We run WTP and the alfano does not pick up the temp untill it gets to 50c.Without digging the paper work out you can set an alarm to flash up on the screen when it reaches the set temperture not sure about the minimum though.You can try to down load the instructions.Alex
