I really hesitate to enter this debate but just as some drivers will be too heavy for a particular class, also some will be too light, a sport based on average weight of people can never satisfy 100%. In fact the MSA and the class owners (especially Tal-Ko) carried out a lot of weight surveys earlier this year, looking at min and max in each class, the amount of ballast and even extrapolating the results into the age range for Super Cadet where possibly two drivers might struggle now the trade has requested the class weight to go up to 115kg (meaning a driver range from 35 - 56kg - the lower end carrying 21kg ballast, probably the very upper end of what is considered safe.) In fact is it really desirable for a 30kg child to be in an adult kart with maybe 25kg ballast?
The range recorded in Cadets was from 31 - 53kg, in MiniMax from 37 - 65kg and Tal-Ko did not believe there would be many if any disadvantaged by the proposed 2011 regulations from their surveys. The surveys were done both at club and championship level and if it was not done at your club you must ask your scrutineer why not. All were asked at least twice and sent forms. As Richard has interpreted, the class owners have been very responsible in reacting to concerns of too small children in big karts and their proposals have been accepted, resulting in the MSA agreeing to keep the 11th birthday as junior entry age. Time will tell if Super Cadet is popular or not, clubs will run it if there is a demand, otherwise not.
