Anyone else had problems with the current Maxxis TKM slicks overheating? Initially I had problems front and rear because I was running too much tyre pressure. I'm now down to 9 psi rear, 8 psi front. The rears seem fine, but I'm still putting too much heat into the front, and get big "sausages" of rubber rolling off the inside edges. In slow corners this also causes a weird gripping-up effect where I can get a big wobble out of it, or even get it right up on two wheels after about 8 laps.
I've tried moving the track width in and out, and where I am (1 m between tyre centres)seems best (it really doesn't like going wide, gets far worse). I've tried loosening off pods and bumper, which makes it slightly worse but it's easier to drive around it somehow. Going lower on pressure definitely helps, as does leaning back and keeping the throttle pinned from before I turn-in, but that doesn't help lap times.
Thoughts so far: Move seat back a little way? Get mag rims, maybe go even lower pressure? Get hubs for the front? (better installation stiffness...) Try the "less ackermann" position on the steering arms?
Any opinions and advice gratefully received, especially if you've had the problem and solved it. One of the other drivers at Hooton had a similar problem, and his got better when he widened the front end. Mine didn't.
