Have a good look at the oil seals. I have heard of broken up nylon gears tearing up into small shards & for some reason working their way into the oil seal & tearing the lip. It may be possible in this case for gear oil to be drawn into the engine possibly bringing shards of nylon with it. It would be an idea to change the seal if any doubt exists. Hopefully you have caught this before anything has been drawn through.
