Going to depend on how often you race and test but the comer tyres do last very well.
If you are doing one club race each month then you could find a set lasting most (if not all) of the year.
Your driver should be able to tell when the tyres are going off plus you have the visual check on the depth of the holes. If your driver does not have the experience to feel the tyres losing grip then you could always buy a spare set and do back-to-back test on a test day after say 5/6 races.
Tracks also differ - with some, older tyres can work better than new, so it is worth talking to people at the tracks you use. Even if a track gives an advantage to new tyres your driver has to have the ability to take advantage of the small performance gain.
