Seems to be some unecessary hype here regarding minimax engine costs. When the 09 barrels came in the days of the 'mega' priced engines went away overnight. My lad races in S1, in the top ten regularly with engines costing less than 2K. The trick is set them up properly and regularly test the kit to ensure all the bolt on's are upto the standard required ( batteries, coil, carbs, looms etc )TKM grids are healthy within about a 50 mile radius of Talko's base at Sandy. Go to PFI and they were non-existent although they are being encouraged to return there.
