As a starter kart, an old Tonykart Viper would be perfect. They are still competitive and because of the new CIK karts, you can pick them up for as little as £400 on the market place. I'd advise spending more like £600 on a chassis to ensure you get a decent one. You could even give Paul Carr a ring to see if he has any new ones left - they'll be going cheap, I'm sure.
The Storm is going okay - it isn't a very animated chassis and the quality seems pretty poor (pod bars snap straight away etc). However, it's a bargain, so pod bars snapping are the least of your worries.
The TaG seems fairly similar to direct drive and clutched engines in all honesty. There may be a tenth or two between TaG and DD, so it depends whether those two tenths matter to you or whether not push starting the kart matters to you - but push starting is easy if you learn how.
In my opinion - and many other people's opinions - the DD provides a more driveable kart. It accelerates when you want it to and provides better feeling on the brakes.
