Dave and Ethan
Don't get 'stressed'..... you are doing what we ALL did, at the beginning. Making small mistakes that are costing you. Learning to racfe is a LONG process.... you are just at the start and this can be the tougest part..... except for the winning.... which is tougher!
The place to gho isx to your nearest trtack on a race weekend and WATCH what is done. Wander round the paddock and talk to people running WTP (or other Cadets) when you can see that they are NOT gibbering, stressed loonies (some will be, if they have a problem!).
Burning a clutch sounds like an adjustment problem. People will help you set it up. The first thought is that you have too small a rear-sprocket and the kart is unable to 'lock' the clutch 'in' as it's slipping too much.
Another choice is to go to a track on the day they allow free-practice BEFORE the race. Many karters try to attend the track just before the next race, if they can. You need to check with the track when that will be. There will be more chance for people to be able to help you set-up YOUR kart (which they won't be able to do on race-day).
Don't worry, if you are polite, people WILL help you..... so long as they are not6 STRESSED! Look for a Dad-Son who seem like you two! It's NOT a good idea to go and pster those who are in BIG motor-homes or 'teams'.... many of them THINK are too mimportant to help! The remaining 95% of karters will be DELIGHTED to help you... they were like you only recently!
