Hi Booty,
I too am new to karting, I also had a simular problem with the kart wanting to travel but only when it was started from cold even when my lad was sat in it.I was told at the track (PFI) that it was common and their was nothing wrong with my carb settings but don't get me wrong it didd'nt want to race down the pit lane a 30mph! But travel none the less.

I was told to get it on the stand or put a wheel under the bumper and give it some rev's for 20/30 sec's to warm the engine once I've done that it's fine on the same carb setting's.

I'm no expert but it worked for me.

Not only but also I've just got my boy a second hand kart (storm Comer) which it suffering from power drop off which has had me scratching my head also so I too am learning from this thread.
