Easy way to solve this issue is to test on a flat bed.

Simply, set up a tortional test rig. (crudely) Bolt down the front end, put a half inch bit of steel under the frame on one side. Put weights on the other side until the frame touches the flat bed. Do this with the stays on and off. If the nuber of kilo's is diferent when the stays are on or off then they will make a difference on the track. If the weight required is the same then leave the stays in the tool box.
