First of all take it easy and don't expect too much. Most important enjoys yourselves.
We have completed a couple of seasons in cadets at Whilton and did OK. Not saying my set up is the best as each driver and kart will be different.
First and most important. Keep a record of your settings and a result of your times/temp after each test session and race
Temp will be relatively low so keep your pressures up. Start at around 24psi if the temp is around 12deg. As your driver is new to it he/she will have slower lap times and therefore will not build up heat in the tyres as the quicker kids will. If your driver says he is slipping everywhere try taking the pressures up a couple of psi (ask the lads at the track. they will always help)
If you have too much grip pressures down. Keep an eye on your engine temp. Too much grip can take your engine temp up. Initially keep below the 200 deg mark.
This time of year we would be running in the dry with a rear spoket of 87/88 teeth. Might be best for you to with 90 as this will help him get out of the corners. As he comes more confident the teeth can come off.If you a have a mychron keep an eye on the RPM. Not just the top end but the min revs as well. This will be an indictor as to how he is getting round the corners. we ran at min 6800 / max 12000.
In the dry run the rear wheels out to max and the fronts with a 10mm washer on the inside. This one will also change as your driver gets more confident and starts to feel what suits him. Some kids prefer in and vice versa.
Always ask the Dads at the circuit. They will generally help. Be careful of some advice. They mean well but is just not correct.
Enjoy,
Danlee
