To remove the clutch, the centre nut is left hand thread. The clutch drum just slides off but the clutch its self is jammed onto a taper shaft, the only safe way to remove this is to purchase a clutch puller (less than 20 quid. and worth it.) As Jacksdad says, tell us why you believe the starter is shot and maybe somebody can suggest another solution. You dont normally get problems with them as long as you keep em dry and get your finger off the starter button as soon as it starts the engine, nothing unusual.
