When i started out i was completely in the dark like yourself. Told to do this and told to do that. You will eventually get your own base settings. These however only come with bum in seat time. I race for fun as and when and use redlodge and ellough to do so. I started using a 165 main jet and P3.....because i was told to!!! I now use a 155 main jet most of the time only going up to say a 158, with P1 k98 my base carb setting. This is a setting i have found to be the best for "ME" for getting out of the twisty corners, very lean but going by plug and piston crown colour it doesnt seem to far of. I would use a IW24 this time of year but if i didnt have one then a IW27 would be put in. You have to remember these engines come with a 6 month warranty when new or rebuilt. My view on this is that if a RACE engine can carry a warranty like that then it nust be well within its tuning parameters. If it was on the edge then the slightest wrong mixture settings would create big problems very quickly..... as i used to find in GP125 road racing!!! Read about "popping down the straights" and "lifting the choke lever" and just adjust your carb to eliminate these things. At the end of the day my settings probably will not work with your carb as all carbs differ. My mate will use a 162 at the same race as me so dont panic!!! Where are you this weekend then?
