hi there
having been karting over 2 years and racing now for 1 i hope i can at least provide my view which may be helpful.
when i started looking at 2 stroke karting i weighed over 130 kilos (20.5 Stone). i was SLOW, not only in terms of my weight but also because of being new. in terms of laptime i was lapping clay Pigeon circuit around4 to five seconds off the pace. when i passed Arks my first race i did was at dunkeswell, where i was lapping about 4 to 4.5 secs off the pace. what i noticed was that clay pigeon was a track where you needed to have confidence in the kart and your driving abilities to reward with a good lap time, whereas dunkeswell was to me a very different track. mabye you may wish to look at the track you visit because i found that this to me made a difference to me. however of course being overweight will make you slow everywhere, not just at particular tracks.
now i race in Rotax 177 at Dunkeswell where at the last meeting my total weight came in at 200 kilos. personal weight wise i believe i have lost between 10 and 14 kilos since starting karting and i WILL be losing more for the start of my next season. i am still giving away 23 kilos to everyone else but I ABSOLUTELY ENJOY my racing. i race firm but fair and i always have a smile on my face. sometimes i manage to have a few battles with drivers for a lap or more but i accept that as much as i try i will not be competitive at my current weight.
not only will losing the weight be healthily advantageous but being able to keep up with the mid pack will improve your skills as you race more. the more you lose in theory the quicker you will go.
so eventually what i am saying is it can be done but dont expect miracales. and mostly DO IT BECAUSE YOU ENJOY IT. if you ENJOY it, you will continue and the weight can come off easier.
right then where that pie
hope this is a help
