I have been reading the replies to the uneven wear problem and nobody has spotted the fact that an older caliper will wear on the thrust face where the pad backplate runs against. As this thrustplate wears and you change sets of pads the thrust face of the caliper can cause drag on sections of the pad thus making the pad press slightly unevenly on the disc. A similar effect to having the pad sticking on the top pin on an OTK caliper
