This whole thing seems to be a debate on which class is better Rotax or TKM, who cares, its nothing to do with Rotax on what TKM wants to do with the rule changes. Do you really think people will move from Rotax into TKM 'the budget class as people are calling it' if it is really a 'laughing stock' full of bandits as John is so keen to state!
In my opinion no, opening up chassis would not shift max drivers across, if Max engines are so much cheaper than why would they buy a tkm engine to bolt on their chassis! So what would be the point in opening it up to non-homologated chassis?? If it is to attract newcomers too, why would they wanna buy the expensive CIK chassis when they could have a cheaper TKM chassis. It wouldnt make sence.
It is not a sh*te class like people are trying to state, we like it because we can afford it and it means we can race! Just because it might not be the class you want to do doesnt mean you can slate it for the people who are on this thread! The whole idea of making it into a mockery with no ARKs tests, a mix of chassis, axles etc is the most stupid idea I have ever heard! I mean how dangerous and stupid could that be for people who have not got a licence and maybe never been in a kart to go out with experienced drivers in a race. That would definitely make TKM die! Good job the suggester aint Turney!
Opening homologation would mean a constant development and hassle to make the kart work the best on different maxxis tyres with a TKM engine as it will be a completely new thing. This would make the class expensive as a january chassis could end up being underdeveloped for the class and by May the same make of chassis is miles quicker as they could change it due to the lack of homologation. There is development over the year in tkm at the moment but the costs are much cheaper with homologation there. For a start these chassis would be more expensive in the first place and after a few months you will have to buy new to be up there due to constant mods. Its just going to become a very expensive class and I for a start wouldn't even want to bother with the hassel and complication. People with money could even end up buying a diff kart or having one made to suit every track they go too!
If they change axles my Tony wont take one I dont think and there is a chance it could end up being cr*p against the CIK chassis, most likely it will as not made for stickier tyres etc and the new chassis made will have been made for the new tyres and axles. It is brand new and worth nothing, I am only just back into it and this could mean the end again, I will be so annoyed. It a cheap class for people to actually get to race in some form so surely these audiences should be targeted more and listened too, hopefully Turney will do!
If the class needs improving the best way would be to make more of an effort in promotiong the class, new championships, sponsorship with good prizes! A series like STARS in the class would be mega and doesn't have to be expensive if organised correctly. Keep making the kart look more modern and better and faster but not by over complicating the matter and starting over with new chassis etc. I feel it will put people off, its putting me and other TKM people off! Engine mods, better carbs instead and maybe even a slightly better tyre without the need for an axle change. Speed can be gained if needed and so can numbers in the class, I am sure there are just better ways to do it.
