As 'broke' pointed out the inconsistency should be gone now with the 09 barrel and therefore the fact that it's sealed is no longer a problem. People now only have to spend hundreds, not thousands of pounds to have a competitive engine. That is to say, an engine as it should have been in the first place. They are now using twentieth century technology and only a decade into the twenty first. I still believe if it was an open class rather than a Rotax class the competition would have made them produce the 09 engine years ago. However, now they have solved the biggest problem, it is probably another nail in the TKM coffin. As for a rotary engine taking over, even if someone produces one it would have to have a unique selling point. Long service intervals aren't enough or everybody would be running Bilands or Swissautos now. To me the only class to come up with anything new is Formula Blue with different restrictors for different weight drivers and I would consider that has been successful considering the dominant markets of Rotax and TKM in this country.
