I was training with a friend the other evening - Rotax max. We were on same correct jet, same correct fuel, same settings etc. On the last session, he pulled into the pits, saying that he had a strange noise from the engine but no drop in power.

When he showed me, he turned it over and it started, but sounded like a box of spanners. We checked compression which was fine at 135. The piston had full travel in either direction and everything seemed tight and in order.

He is on new clutch with 07 engine.

Any ideas on what to check without sending away? Thanks
