Having very recently shelled out big time for two new SK5's for my 13 and 11 YO sons, due to the end of the acceptance of blue label BS helmets, and insistence on Snell SA2005, I just read from the AbKc letter that come 2011, these top quality, motorsport specific helmets may no longer allowed. For God's sake, what next? I am all for improved safety, but when an area is already good, move onto the next thing that is hurting people, don't try to get one thing perfect and leave the rest in a mess (like cadet bodywork, poor driving standards, reliable wheel retention devices, etc etc) My sons are bigger at 5'10 65 kg and 5'4 52 kg and have stronger necks than many of the smaller adults (incl ladies) that race, so what sense does it make? Are their necks going to suddenly get weaker in a years time? As mentioned above, there are so many items of concern over karting safety -( not least of all neck braces but AbKc tell the clubs thay cant mention them, apparently) Well - we race with SK5's and Leatts and if thats not good enough, look out for the retirement sale notice cos I'm sick of it.
