In the FKS Cadet ‘B’-Final at PFI, Tom Harris (no.88) was involved in a serious accident that resulted in him sustaining a clean break to his left-hand collarbone and will be unable to continue racing in the Formula Kart Stars British Cadet Championship this year.

In very wet and difficult conditions, a number of drivers were involved in an incident where a kart had spun a few karts ahead and when Tom arrived at the scene he had no chance of avoiding it. Tom’s right front wheel hit the nose of the spun kart and this flipped Tom’s kart over at speed and he slid down the track upside down for some distance before coming to rest with Tom still underneath. After the race was stopped, the paramedics worked hard to ensure he was denied any further trauma and he was diagnosed with a suspected broken collar-bone, later confirmed in hospital.

Despite being in pain and very bruised with his arm strapped up, he is in good spirits but sad that his FKS season has ended so prematurely. Tom is also very disappointed that he’s not able to race at Genk in Belgium, which he was so looking forward to and equally disappointed that he may not compete in the forthcoming London Cup at Rye House where he is the reigning HKC Comer Cadet Champion and was hoping to improve on his 5th place in that event last year.

At the moment the damage to his kart and safety equipment is secondary but without doubt his composite neck brace helped avoid a more serious neck injury. We’d like to thank the paramedics and the officials at FKS for ensuring that the family were catered for during this traumatic incident.

Tom has expressed his concerns for the driver of the spun kart he hit and hopes he is ok - he thinks it was no.53 who briefly spoke to me in Parc Ferme whilst we were coming to terms with the incident.

We thank all those at the circuit who expressed their best wishes for Tom's speedy recovery and thank all at Kart-Tek Racing for their help and support this weekend.

If any of you wish to send Tom a personal message, please email him at tom@tomharrisracing.com which he can pick up on his iPod and reply to you himself (one-handed).

Regards
