If it is an air cooled engine then you need an 'under plug' sensor that fits in place of the plug sealing ring.

The RPM lead just needs a loop around the HT lead and the Alfano end is fitted into two holes that you will see in the side of the head unit.

There is no physical connection, the wire just forms a loop throught the two holes.
