Some people have seen coils with very short HT leads and with the coils mounted very high on the engine.
They have said that these people are going much quicker with this setup as the resistance is less and they get a bigger spark.
Now I might be tempted to agree with that if the HT lead was operating at about 5 volts, but at 30kv or whatever, it ain't gonna make any difference.
That's the reason that electricity power companies transmit electricity at such high voltages via pylons.
If they tried to use 240 volts, they wouldn't have enough voltage at the end to compete with the brightness of a candle, because of the resistance voltage drop.
They're probably going fast because they're good drivers, not because of elevated coils and short HT leads :)
