The fins don't make much difference. With the disc one way round the top fins will point in one direction and the bottom ones another. Spin the disc around and the tops and bottoms will switch.

What really makes a difference is the direction of any grooves. I believe these should sweep the gases and brake dust from the pads to the outside of the disc.

Having said that, the disc and carrier are designed to mount a certain way round, although without knowing which system you have, I couldn't say which way. On a car, the disc bell would mount to the outside of the lugs on the disc.
