A cautious yes to both questions.

A novice going through a corner off the throtle may see a lower "low rpm" on the mychron. This is because the clutch will disengage and allow the engine to drop to idle. However if the kart is being driven properly the low rpm will be higher as the clutch is slipping through the corner.

You can easily see at what RPM the clutch engages. Simply put the kart on the ground and increase the rpm, you will feel the clutch engage and the kart starts to move. Most of my clutches engage between 4500 and 5500 but have seen some very worn clutches engage at 6500.

I believe the lap times will increase if the clutch is too worn due to clutch slip.
