Why does the rotax make a popping noise when it is lean? Iv never ever heard another engine make that noise with such a lose of power.
also in the old 100cc days you could run so lean, that you put a hole in your piston. in a rotax it never gets to that stage as it doesnt perform that lean.
I was talking to my dad about it, due to this new Stronger coil that is out in america.
One theory I came up with is when you run lean in a max, the spark isnt strong enough to ignite the fuel as there is less of it and it then 4 strokes or 8 strokes. until there is enough fuel. it then gets ignited (possibly in the exhaust) that causes the Pop/Bang noise. and the 4 or 8 stroking is the feeling of loss of power.
So if we had this new coil with a stronger ignition could we get rid of this popping and 8 stroking effect when we run lean.
This makes sense as when the max's battery is low it wont run at high revs.
Hope this makes sense.....and hope i am right too :-)
