I like many others have been following the 09 engine/barrel scenario with interest, anticipation and trepidation.
JAG have had their hands tied via BRP (Austria) with regards to promised supply hence movement of release dates, unfortunate but that is not JAG's fault.
Now that JAG have a full stock/supply and the engine builders are in a position to supply, another scenario has been raised, and that is that the propsed engine/barrel was supposed to be "as good as the best out there" statement by BRP Rotax.....it has been proven that it is in fact MUCH better than the best out there (Junior) via dyno, track test etc...by various people/teams, again NOT JAG's fault but it now becomes clear that MOST Juniors will now have to change over to remain competitive.
Now my only concern was how close all this is with the next round of Super 1 around the corner and the obvious lack of testing done (on our part) and the fact that we cannot change our barrels over until the last minuite due to financial restraints AND club races we are competing in.....
For example....
We are racing this weekend at Whilton, the whilton again (Brazilian Cup) then PFi (6/7th June) and then it is the Super 1 Buckmore round....so my engines will get converted that week and Buckmore Super 1 Friday will be the FIRST time my lad will have chance to try...SCAREY !
But that's life and we'll just have to get on with it like many others I'm sure.
No one likes change when settled, ME included but change is neccessary to go forward and as we aim to be in this class for a couple of years then hopefully it will be a minor hic-up in the bigger scheme of things.
I have spoken at length this week to JAG, ABkc and the MSA and Friday this week is the day we are hoping to see a statement/announcement re; this situation....JAG state a 21 day notice period which if happens Friday then spot on time fro Super 1, if not then I can only believe that it wont be ready for this round....unless the 21 day notice can be waived ?
Picking up on some comments re; monster engines, cheque book racing etc....is I think a little unfair.
We race every weekend, we test, test, test. We have good engines (2) but certainly not the best out there but we have found out how best our kart works and carburation factors and putting all those things together has produced results.
Spencer Barrow ONLY races at Super 1 events....his dads finances won't allow any other events (hope that's ok Steve), yet he's a regular frontrunner....
Bill Cowley who we've admired for years with his dad Nigel are your prefect example of Father and Son racing on a budget....
It MAY be that when these 09's are raceable that we and others (similar to the above) may, just MAY find that if it is a level playing field, we/they may find it an advantage to our/their benefit ;-)
We'll see.
