Ricardo, Yes you have to remove the outer clutch cover first. The safest way is to buy a piston stop which screws into the plug hole. Most kart dealers will have one. Use the pull start to bring the piston up to top dead centre and then unscrew the nut which is opposite threaded to normal so you turn clockwise to loosen. I have also seen it done using an impact drill which works so fast it just spins the nut off without needing the engine stop.
