the micron 4 has a tendancy for readings to go skitzo it the battery voltage drops below 8.3v. the other one you tried may have had a better battery. Easily checked though just turn it on then press bottom right button and the time/date comes up with the battery voltage at the top.

I also recommend kepping a spare battery in your toolbox(with terminals covered) cos they can cost a fortune at the track!
