Hi SimonS thanks for your input... not sure what profile the tyres are, but your comments do make a lot of sense! Will start taking more detailed tyre and track temperature readings during our next session.
I've tried the Vega site for data but what they publish is very limited. I'd ideally have liked a ball park figure for optimum tyre temp to work from and then adjust as conditions and kart setup change.
Are there conditions when the tyres will not get up to an ideal temperature?
My son has had about 7 or 8 sessions at our local track and when the track is cold his confidence seems to disappear - reduced grip levels... he can be over 2 secs a lap slower. I think part of our problem is my son's driving style, which doesn't seem to put much heat in the tyres.
We do have a new set of slick that we were keeping for when he started racing. Would it make much difference using a new set? Or are we likely to have the same problems getting enough heat in them under the same cold conditions?
Jim
