Guys, I'm quite sure you have far better things to do with your lives other than to tittle tattle about things you know nothing about, grow up and at least have the b@£££s to say who you are or better still come and see me and if you have any issues then face me and lets have a discussion where I can avail you of the FULL facts, not heresay or gossip mongering!
Firstly i find it quite amusing that you take such interest in us, flattering at the very least, maybe a signed photograph may be of some comfort, either way as Ive always said, my awning door is always open, accept the invite and be man enough to ask whatever questions you like, I'll always give the honest answer :)
Yes we were excluded from heat 2 BUT not for WD40 on our clutch (lol).
We run and have run the new style clutches (enclosed black metal domed) since mid Feb.
Like most people, we went over to these clutches for 3 reasons, better longivety = cost saving, reduced initial purchase cost until a set date and for all Super 1 rounds you MUST run these clutches.
They were also SUPPOSED to eradicate the "slippy clutch" syndrome, as they were enclosed and therefore not prone to sprays, lubricants etc...and of course being metal to metal WE believed the last thing anyone would want in there would by ANY type of lubricant!
Advise from JAG, and engine builders and the Rotax manual (page 8) was grease MUST be applied on the bearing.
At the meeting of Rowrah last weekend I approached both Malcolm Fell and Blair (scrutineer) with the said bearing with MINIMAL grease on it for their comments/approval and they were happy to accept it and even stated as I believed that the grease was unable to get into the clutch drum due to its position and it being a sealed unit! On no occassion in the MERE 3 times ive raced with these new clutches has either myself OR a scrutineer inspected the clutch drum AFTER a reace but have ALWAYS had them checked pre race in the normal manner!
This is what happened at Shennington this weekend and I know Paul Klaassen reads this forum so he MAY like to comment accordingly.
After prepping our kart in the normal fastidious manner we arrived for our first heat with our clutch DISSASSEMBELD expecting (as some others did) to be checked....(COC at briefing did say this would happen throughout the day and that ANYONE caught with lubrication of the clutch would be excluded from the WHOLE MEETING and dealt with accordingly! The clutch was not checked and we quickly assembled it ready for the heat.
The top 4 karts were held in parc ferme after the race and clutches were removed to be checked.
We were called into the office by Paul to be told that there was a little too much oil based substance on the rear of the drum???!!! He further went on to explain an incident in Europe where he had a similar situation, a competitor for the first 3 laps went much, MUCH quicker than all others and then tailed off...his fastest lap was lap3, his clutch drum was checked and it had excess oil, he was warned accordingly but went on to have the same situation arise in the following heat (please note and check our fastest laps in all heats AND final are to the rear of the racwe so different from this example), he was excluded from the meeting.
