Look....

The Alfano was GREAT in it's day... that day has passed!

Downloading and analysing the limited data from the Alfano is a ..... (put it nicely......., Ian....)... task that may not be fast or simple.... Some never even TRY to from the Alfano...

The Mycron 3 does it from via a USB cable and it's FAST!!! The quantity it gives is stunning and the software is damned nigh MINDBLOWING. You have to BUY the cable but you get the FABULOUS software for 'free'.

The Mychron 4 does that job even BETTER than the 3 but uses a data-key simply to save the HASSLE of connecting your PC to the Mychron 3 which can lead to risking dropping youtr PC as you balance it on a side pod duing a download. It SHOULD be safe but if you do it repeatedly (100, 200, 500, etc., times) the chance of you dropping your expensive PC for simple CLUMSINESS reasons increases. Basically.... SH*T happens!

So.... if you are DELIGHTED with the limited info from your Alfano and do not INTEND to download the data, then either Mychron WITHOUT a cable or key is STILL better simply because it can DISPLAY more info on its OWN screen. Damn it, you can even REPLAY each lap in 'real time': for example, your mechanic can replay the Revs for the WHOLE race just as though he sat beside you on the kart! Please note, it will STOP you from being able to claim you motor had a 'flat spot' and giving everyone the EXCUSE that the ENGINE cost you the race! They will be able to SEE the moment when you locked up and half spun which REALLY cost you it!

If you DO want to download the data, the Mychron STILL wins because it delivers the data better, faster AND more comprehensively. The 'light pen' is a bit of a 'faff'.

The Mychron WON the battle about 4 YEARS ago... it's just that some drivers simply didn't want to BELIEVE it and stuck with the one they had ALWAYS used.

And before you ask, I do NOT sell either and have absolutely NO ties to either company nor gain any benefits from either.... other than the fact that we BOUGHT a Mychron 3 and were simply blown AWAY by it's simple BRILLIANCE!

Ohhh..., all that lot was just 'MY opinion'!

Ian
