if you move up now you will have a good 3 years in the class which will give him the experience. the first year is always a learning year.

he will need ime in the seat to start with. big power difference and grippier tyres.

start with a used tonykart frame 05/06/07 - easy to set up, maintain, dont worry about spending out on expensive motors. older engines with barrels (black rads) tend to make better minimax's anyway.
2 engines needed, 1 test, 1 race.

my suggestion: do 1 year of club racing see how your getting on, then if you want to move to the bigger stuff s1/stars buy the kit (chassis motors)

regards
