Steve,
In defence of your team argument, racing with a team will see you achieve better results much earlier on when starting karting, albeit at a greater expense.
My answer to this is that for the good of our sport during gloomier economic times, every experienced competitor should mentor and share their knowledge with newcomers and those less-experienced and not hide away in large awnings.
On the other hand, having spent a fortune of time and money to gain a decent amount of knowledge, why would anyone want to give this info away for free..? My answer is that if you're still a good enough driver then you shouldn't need to worry :-)
It is actually quite rewarding helping others; even I like to pass on my limited knowledge of karting.
