Many of you seem to assuming that the ONLY problems will be loss of power because of the charging unit. Oh no it WON'T be!
The (in my opinion, MAJOR) problems have already been discussed MANY times! Even IF the motor performs the identically to the 'original', how many people are going to be able to TOLERATE or would be willing to RISK the increased numbers of failures of clutches, starters, batteries and SWITCH gear? That ONE failure of your (e.g.) battery could be the cause the LOSS of the Championship! You'd have to be BONKERS to risk it!
Secondly, who will want the increased SERVICE time if there is NO benefit from the additions?
Look at it brutally........ how many of the QUICK boys (or girls) have been sitting on the front rows of the dummy grid for the final saying:-
'you know, what I REALLY need is a clutch and a starter motor'!
Answer.... B*GG*R ALL! Because they have ALWAYS had that choice with the OFF-board starter........ and how many of THOSE do you see on the front rows of the finals.....??????
Therefore: the new motor will need to be FASTER than the 'original' to make it worthwhile for RACERS (as opposed to 'poseurs')! That 'extra power' WOULD create a 'take up'..... at the expense of those who are ALREADY racing the 'original' motors.
Just IMAGINE the reaction of REST of the drivers if, in the early races, it's an all 'on-board-starter' front row!!!!!!!!!
Alan is between a rock and a hard place: he either:-
1) makes them the SAME power and sells only a few and only THEN to the feeble who imagine pushing is difficult!
or
2) He makes them MORE powerful and kills the class as the 'original' will be obsolete!
I wish him luck with THAT dilemma!
