With some trepidation I venture an opinion as I am not a racer, just an ex-karting dad that still loves karting. Doing a quick sum in my head I would think the power taken by the charging system would be quite a small fraction of the engine bhp. Yes I can appreciate that in a back to back test between TAG and non TAG TKM, given everything else (set up, driver etc) being absolutely identical (not very likely in reality) then the non TAG may well win. However taking into account all the variables and the considerable benefit of being able to get back on the track quickly(usually)after an 'incident' then the advantage of TAG cannot be discounted. Is this not why we had the big move from TKM to Rotax? It gives a much needed choice I feel and hopefully will keep TKM going for many years. As always there will be the purist that still wants to retain the origins of 'proper' kart racing and nothing wrong with that. Personally I will be more than pleased to see TKM growing again, still love the sound and smell. Bill Dawes.
