There is a new ignition coming out, you get it with your new engine or as a new unit, but it isn't a mandatory change.
The main differences are that whereas the old ignition sat on the battery box in front of the radiator, the new ignition is mounted on the underside of the nassau panel. The battery is mounted on the steering bottom arm (out of direct wet) and the red and green buttons are replaced by a key operated multi-switch (eg: neutral / kill/ run/ start, with neutral to insert or remove the key.)
The reasons for enforcing the change to the 5A ignition were the reliability issues in previous versions; there were cases of karts that had got wet starting themselves on stands (which is why it is good practice to remove a battery wire when the kart isn't on the grid); and the number of damaged units where the charging circuit had been disabled in the belief that it made a difference to lap times.
In theory this should prevent a lot of the wet damage from people running their ignitions without the wet cover and the vibration damage from the mounting directly on a chassis bar.
