With push starting all you need to learn is, 1. Pick rear of kart up 2. Put kart onto the easy start wheel (either a 'bolt on' version, or an 'off-board' version) 3. Roll kart until it's going fast enough 4. Drop kart off wheel 5. Kart starts. If you're just starting out I'd recommend you do it with you sitting in the kart, and getting a mate to push you. Itpro has a much better and much longer explanation for push starting, but essentially that is it.
With the clutch you'd have to learn how to properly maintain it, which is very important, because otherwise you will be plagued by clutch failure. It's also another job for you to do each time you're out karting, which is always a drag. It does give you the benefit of being able to drive away straight after a spin, but is it worth the extra work?
Clutches (although very definitely in the minority) aren't as uncommon as Itpro is making out, it's well documented that Ian doesn't like them :D
