a good 12v battery will read 12.6v (1.1v per cell) a flat one will read 12.39v or lower.
I would suggest to BUY the expensive Rotax battery, NEW, charge full after every use and keep in a warm place in winter - for as reliable battery trouble free karting as possible.
Now that reminds me to cuddle my battries!! ;-)
