Read your thread with interest, but really not sure where you get your figures, that is scary to say the least! We race in Europe BNL and club level with Rotax straight out of the box, good carb and exhaust and on pace. Now granted there will always be quicker engines but you are just coming from a class where engines are regulary going for Ł5000, I've not seen any mini. junior Rotax or X30 anywhere near this price over past few years. For the price of a good Honda cadet engine that would pay for complete Junior X30 kart and engine or Mini/Junior!
Stop listening to paddock gossip, 1 year old tony kart is around Ł1500, so I think you need to take a look again at your figures but then in any motorsport you will always get people spending way over the odds.
