I did say it's hard to prove one way or another.
But to me it's not 50:50 as, I believe, there is far less evidence that they could cause harm, than that the could reduce it.
Even if it was only, in a very few percent of accidents, that a neck brace could reduce the risk of injury, as a parent, to me it'd be worth it.
As for waiting for someone else, to prove to me that they work, for me it works like this: do I understand what the designs are trying to achive? Yes Then I chose the one, I felt, best designed to do that job
Everyone does have to make their own decisions about risk and kit. My person belief is bambinos and cadets, in particular, should consider neck protection. These are small (ish) children, who might be new to the sport and so not had time to developed their neck muscles yet, giving them a greater risk of injury.
