It may be the goal of some people, but it will happen only very rarely. Why would an experienced IKR driver want to go that route, only to be effectively humiliated with a ‘driving test’, novice plates etc., etc.? And all that for what is often more of a demolition derby (presumably because too many are sold on the prospect of F1 stardom rather than sportsmanship).

IKR is the model that will attract most adults to stay or return. As effectively already said: IKR is not in decline. And demographic as well as economic trends make it crystal clear that adults, especially those over 35 or whatever, can be the only driver of any growth in kart racing.

There are a handful of successful MSA clubs – typically down the centre of the country – and plenty of others for which the current model isn’t working. They have been seeking and will increasingly seek the IKR route to survival and indeed growth.

There has been dramatic change in the past few years, and it’s likely to be even more dramatic in the next few.
