I saw that wheel come off at clay and bounce over the barriers very close to where my son was stood. It would have killed him should it have struck his head. Very close call with many people stood there.
I think what is being said is that during scrutineering at MSA (or IKR) then there should be a check and a discussion about wheels, wheel nuts and axles checked.
Even if its a word from the scrutineer to say make sure you check these before going out. Maybe replace the wheel nuts on more than one occasion if they are Nylocs or K nuts. Make sure you nip them up if not and preferably torque them up.
I am guilty of a wheel coming off. I didnt check, luckily it came off where no one was stood. The kart does not go out without me doing that check now and ticking it off the check list.
I appreciate lots of things can come of karts, for example an engine mount bounced past me at Forest edge at some speed while I was spectating.
I think the MSA (or other associations) should just mention this while they do the kart checks at scrutineering.
Dare I mention safety features to stop this happening in the wheel hub design?
