As I understand it both k nuts and Nikon nuts were designed for the aviation industry as one time nuts you would never use the same nut twice as once it has been tightened and the loosened the retaining properties are compromised. Yes kart ears reuse then time and time again, no wonder wheels work loose.

A bag of about 100 m8 nuts is only about Ł10 or so so why risk a DNF by reusing nuts.
