Not sure what you say is correct David. The way I understand it (which may be wrong!) is that other than that it doesn't damage paintwork, DOT5 doesn't have any redeeming features at all, although it may have done so in the past.

If it is better in low maintenance environments, why do road cars almost never use DOT5? I'd say they are a much lower maintenance environment to karts.

I understand about it not absorbing water, but instead water pools into droplets and causes corrosion.

Compressibility and resistance to high temperatures is also worse than conventional brake fluid.

All cost and margin IMO.
