Does it really matter if one can prove/disprove the reason behind the differences between different rims? We use specific rims in the wet which work much better than another set. My lad reported that the kart felt better balanced and had increased grip, along with being easier to catch if it starts to break free. We've used them ever since and it hasn't even occurred to me to attempt to discover exactly why it happens. Personally I'd hazard a guess that it's to do with the different track widths and their relationship with the contact patches, since no other changes were made, but I also think there's more in getting the tyre pressures correct than in the construction of the rims, especially in cadets where the tyres operating temperatures are lower.
