If you are using an engine builder, then the obvious choice is to get them to optimise the ignition timing position unless you already own the tools and have the confidence to do it yourself.

At Ł25 (based on a UFO receipt I've seen), if you're running a T2 you'll be surprised how much advance the new rules give you - it'll be the cheapest performance increase you've even had within the regulations.

Regarding decking the block or skimming the head, it's really all down to the measurements as a good machinist will be able to match the visual appearance of the atrocious machining done by Honda and put a few extra damage marks on the machined surfaces to simulate poor part handling done prior to assembly in Thailand (these are disposable genny engines after all!)
