WD 40 = Water Displacement # 40 Those guys in California tested lots of various samples with the view to produce a water expelling fluid, they got it right on the 40th attempt, so being as adveturous as they were, they called it WD40.
When we used to squeeze every last enth of power out of the cadet engines, trying to make the bad engines perform as good as the lads at the front it was common practice to get the grease out of all bearings to reduce drag the of the greace, the next step was to add a lubricant, my vote was 3 in 1 oil. You can simply give a drop or two just before each session, then wash it all out, grit 'n all at the end of the day.
