I think the costs issue has been done to death on here, not only in this thread but countless others
what is clear, is that if you can afford to do it, you do and absorb the costs as part of what it means to you, but if you cannot afford it then the many reasons to justify that get aired and pointed to as the resons you don't do it
I believe we do need the type of thing that Super 1 gives us - a point of the pyramid of class and skill etc etc that we should be seeking to aim for, but although some think we have that as is, others, me, included do not see it that way .....I see it as a sort of pinnacle, but not in the 'mainstream' which could and should be available to everyone, it is for me a sort of offshoot of the mainstream that some will venture off to if finances allow......and for that reason I support Alan's posting where he has offered/suggested some reshaping or form of variation to the current set up but retaining the ethos of it being the 'crem-de-la-crem' that it should be, and as such available to all .......the challenge is to point it in the right direction so the costs justify the outcome and therefore appeal to more people accordingly
