I am so pleased we came to cadet racing just as the Iame engine came out. We made the change from WTP in February, so were on the back foot with a just off novice plate driver and pretty much novice (to karting) dad.
Our engines have cost the initial 1k plus the fiche cost, and our 2 seem as quick as any, quick enough for fastest lap at PFI in May and a couple of lap records elsewhere anyway. No big money motors anywhere(ie Comer) as far as I know. It seems important to get a good dyno setting on carb, and yes they are all different settings. I had some frustrating carb problems initially which mostly were my fault I think. I change plugs regularly as a precaution and have learnt to do the carb myself. I had 1 early pull start breakage but all credit to JM, they have repaired them foc and the new 4mm cord and reel seems to be working well. Some breakages seemed to be down to a heavy handed technique tbh. Scrutineering has seemed to be very robust everywhere and has found a number of deliberate as well as inadvertent problems throughout the season, regular squish checks are a must, I also understand that the restrictor can 'stretch' out of spec across the bolt holes so keep a check on that. Our engines are on 30 plus hours now with no sign of slowing yet but will get refreshed over winter I guess.
Grids are huge here in Lincs, no easy results at all, 26 at Fulbeck and 25 club Iame with a 40+ lgm grid at PFI last month. I can only guess this will spread south shortly.
All in all, +1 for Iame cadet
